This is the month March and it is time for temple festivals at Cherthala! The Vadakkumkara pooram is just over. A lot of celebrations and rejoicing everywhere. Festivities on the street. Decorated elephants, processions and traditional rites. I love the fireworks at Vadakkumkara temple. Alas! This year even though I was at Pallippuram I missed it. Elephants! The poor creatures! I love elephants and sympathise with them. What else could I do? An elephant procession is in progress at Vadakkumkara. Here are some pictures.

Symbolic Strike!
Keralites are so symbolically expressive that they go to any extent to describe the seriousness of the situation! Here is a guy who performs a hunger strike at the Taluk office gate at Vaikom demanding the opening of the local dam immediately. Look at the costume! See how he has tried to create the atmosphere of an oppressing dam by using a miniature one at the strike site! He claims himself to be a fighter against corruption. The banner reads:
"Hunger Strike!
Demanding the Vadayar Muttu (small dam at Vadayar) to open immediately, anti-corruption worker Mr. K. Chellappan Pulikkasserry Ullala alias Makkan is on indefinite hunger strike from March 10"
